Psychoanalytical/Psychological Theory Analysis in The Vampire Diaries

In The Vampire Diaries Damon Salvator seems like he’s the main character psychological problems coming back from his past. In the show Damon in one on the characters to be cold hearted and devious in all aspects. At that point everyone should know that he isn’t the way he is because he wants to but something in his past made him the way he  is now. In one of the episodes from The Vampire Diaries they tell how Damon became a cold hearted vampire. To inform even further Damon has a brother, Stefan Salvator, whom he’s very close to that got turned into a vampire first. Since being a vampire was very new to Stefan he had the urge to do ungrateful things to people that lead him to turning Damon into a vampire as well. After that Stefan had shown Damon how to be a real vampire and convinced him into hunting various of innocent people. However, before and after Damon was turned he was as innocent and a very warm hearted person until someone and something triggered him in becoming something he didn’t knew was in him. We all know some people change and let that past overcome them or let it pass through them; what Damon did was that It let him overcome who he was and turned him into a cold hearted person.

Damon is now a vicious alcoholic and blood drinking vampire whom his only desire is to kill and hate who ever stands his way of doing things. That’s the physiological behavior outcome of Damon Salvator’s past and who he’s become now. However, later in the seasons Damon seems to finally get the girl of his dreams to love her which seemed to be a huge therapy work for him and his life. As love has concord him he now cares much more of others than himself. His girlfriend, Elena Gilbert, has a very open and expressed mind that had lead her to many friendships that make her feel as id she was part of a family. Now that Damon observes her caring for others and how much they matter to her he tends to do the same. Ever time there is a friend of hers that seeks help, Damon is always willing to help and even sacrifice himself to save others just so Elena can be happy.

I’m not saying Damon has changed completely for the best because he always has his desires to kill and hate people but he now knows how to control them with the help of Elena. At times there might be some major things that can trigger Damon in being the monster he knows  he is and lets him take pride for what he does. If he seems that there is no other option but to kill someone to get the work done then we will gladly do it without questioning. However, to others there might be another way to solve the conflict that might take some time but Damon prefers quick and easy. Sometime it takes the right person to let the good in you come out like his girlfriend Elena. Elena not always accepts the way he does things so she comes in and makes sure he does the right things so everyone will be pleased and not get hurt. At the very end of the seasons he end up doing something very from the bottom of his heart which is saving Elena’s best friend Bonny over he. If he would of saved Elena than he knew it would be selfish of him to keep her after he knew that Elena would rather choose to keep Bonny alive and not her. So Damon decided to save Bonny and not the love of his life because his mind knew that it would be the right thing; maybe not for him but for the people around him. To be I believe that is huge progress from his physiological past.

“No Name Woman” Feminist Analysis

The title is very important in informing us about the power and status of woman in Chinese and Chinese-American society because it’s giving us an opinion piece that women don’t have the say to anything especially in the Chinese culture. In the text woman are only seen as objects and nothing else. The granddaughter is being told a story from a long time ago from her mother I suppose. At the time of the grandmother it was life or death and women had to do anything to stay alive even if it had  to trade their children and give themselves up for anything they needed. They explained that they had no privileges at all only allowed by the men. The mother made it very clear that she would want the granddaughter doing something that might unpleased the men or else she might want to die for having no say and no freedom at all.

The story clearly tells us that there is a huge separation between men and women and the power they hold in their hands. For example in the text it says, “On a farm near the sea, a woman who tended her appearance reaped reputation for eccentricity. All the married woman blunt-cut their hair in flaps about their ears or pulled it back in tight buns. No nonsense. Neither style blew easily into heart-catching tangles. And at their weddings they displayed themselves in their long hair for the last time”(Kingston,10). This means women had no right to be self expressed in their own beauty only for the day of their wedding and it demonstrates that they have no control over themselves and the power they hold. As well as for the fathers, mothers, grandfather, and grandmothers play a role in all of this because for generations the grandfathers follow up to what they had been taught to do for the rest of the new generations and more preferably would want to increase the population in men within the family. For grandmothers and mothers they have no day in any of it for example if a trade between a baby girl with a baby boy had to be done to save the family’s strength then I had to be done forcefully from the men.

To me it seems men still define the role in women in both societies here. However, it’s demonstrated in different types of way. For Chinese woman they have a straight forward policy they have to follow according to men. The power within the Chinese-American is a bit different because the person had to notice that the feminism is being implied not just thrown out there. The story does say how women and girls are valued by each society that make them a weak target either way. All men try to do is make sure they are not important as they are and make sure they don’t hold the cards on who has the power and who doesn’t.

Reactions in Evermore by Alyson Noel

I just started reading this book like two days ago and it really grabs my attention. It really amazes me how the main character lives her life after a tragic accident that killed her whole entire family. Now she experiences weird psychic visions when she’s being touched by someone. After all she experiences she was never the same again and she describes the way she was and the person she is now. She explains how her life was complete and living the life of a normal teenager like made varsity cheerleader, go to dances, her hair would be visible to everyone. Now she hardly talks to people and she’s known as a freak at her school. All she does is pull her hood forward ignore the word by listening to her music all day. Then there’s a new guy that grabs Ever’s attention and seems like through out the book Damen will be a huge part of Ever’s life.

I don’t tend to summarize my book but I think you should know a bit about it. I would like to share my thoughts about this fascinating book. There’s something that still gets me thinking and it’s her name, Ever. In the book it says, ” And I fell to the ground, my skin prickled with cold, my whole body twitching, crying, screaming, cursing, begging, making promises I knew I could never ever keep”(5). Right when she explained this she mentioned her name which I think there’s a connection between what she said and her name. To me I think her name might be a negative thing for her in the book. She thinks  she will never ever get no where in life because of her tragic memories. They haunt her and stop her from living her life and be happy. At the moment she’s placing her self in a terrible place and I sense it. I know how it feels to have negativity around you it’s around me all the time as well. I wake up every morning hoping my day will be something I will remember in a good way. Her name can be a good or a bad thing it’s just up to her on whether she wants a positive or negative image in her life. Only she has the strength to make her name special and meaningful.

Throughout the book her dead sister disappears and reappears in Ever’s life. I don’t think that’s a good thing for Ever. I mean it’s a good thing seeing someone you lost but at one point in life people need to let go in order for both people to be happy. Riley her sister seems to be so rude to her and makes her wonder things that she shouldn’t even be thinking of. Riley shouldn’t be popping out of Ever and just bring her down all the time especially when Ever wants to know where her parents are and why aren’t they appearing like Riley is.

When I arrive to English class I get so excited to start class reading my book and when it’s time to stop reading I wished there was much more time to keep reading. I really like “Evermore” so far.
